Review of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation by Market AnalystPosted: Tuesday, 06 August 2019 - Calgary
Great Organization in flux CMHC is a crown corporation that is retooling itself for the future. This includes increasing the tools available, increasing the freedom employees have to pursue their own projects, and providing growth opportunities to its employees. I have been given many opportunities to step up and provide analysis above and beyond my job duties. Good work is well rewarded here. This change has been well received in the Market Analysis Center. Employees are empowered to do their own research and put it to print with the new Housing Market Insight reports. Even new employees are encouraged to explore and analyze markets in new ways. Analysts are given room to roam and grow, but are not set up to fail. While this change is occurring, CMHC is maintaining elements of its work culture that make it a great place to work, including respect for work-life balance. Employees are encouraged to use family days and sick days if needed. Compensation is very good when compared to other government roles for Economists. Opportunities to advance through the organization are frequently available, and management is supportive of employees looking to move up in the organization. CMHC can be very conservative in the risks it is willing to take. Analysts must be very measured in the wording they choose when presenting to the public. However, CMHC has been getting better in this regard.
